World’s tallest waterslide opening delayed

May 20, 2014

schlitterbahnChartTaller than Niagara Falls and the Statue of Liberty, Kansas waterpark Schlitterbahn’s new ride is a 17-storey drop into uncharted terror.

Recently endorsed by the Guinness Book of Records as the world’s tallest waterslide, the 51 metre tall ride is named Verrückt, German for crazy, and most riders will probably need a touch of madness to contemplate the drop.

Located in Kansas City, Kansas, USA, the Verrückt was originally scheduled to open to the public May 23 but Schlitterbahn has announced that the ride needs some more testing and some final adjustments and will not be open until June 5 at the earliest.

When it does open, it will do so as the tallest water slide. Officially verified by Guinness World Records prior to its opening, the Verrückt stands at a record-breaking height of 51.38 m (168 ft 7 in).

After the initial, nearly vertical drop, riders then zoom up a five-storey hill before coming to a stop. Top speeds are expected to hit 104 kmh.
